1 Nephi 1:1-5

Father Lehi, receiving prophecy takes his family and leaves Jerusalem. He has taught his family in the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians, primarily who he did business with. Importance of being obediant is given. Keeping ones language and knowledge of gospel through the written word is provided. We see that it is better that one man die than a whole naton should perish. God gives no commandment that He doesn't also give a way to accomplish it.
